K-8

Estrella Foothills global academy

The Estrella Foothills Global Academy is a new PreK-8 school situated on 15 acres built for Laveen Elementary School District. The 97,900 sq ft campus consists of 2 buildings including a single story multipurpose building and a two story classroom building.  The multipurpose building houses the school’s kitchen, cafeteria, music rooms, as well as the gymnasium.  The classroom building includes the administration offices, library, 50 classrooms and stem rooms.  The school’s focus is on global studies which is reflected in the design with architectural metal features of the globe and world map along with interior graphics of continents around the world.  The City of Phoenix joined with the Laveen Elementary School District to include a 8.4 acre park consisting of a baseball field, soccer fields, 3 exterior basketball courts, tetherball courts, and a playground.

Municipality

town of Queen Creek administration building

This project consisted of constructing a 13,000 sq ft metal frame building including the mezzanine.  Included were 11 offices, 6 of them upstairs and 5 downstairs with a large open area that will potentially house 15 more cubicle offices.  Also included in this project were 2 conference rooms and a tech room.  On the north side under the mezzanine, we built a large covered patio that will provide an outdoor break area and other activities. This project was designed and constructed in order to provide over 75% of daylight spaces and with an open environment and collaborative space in mind.

Commercial

Oak Creek Self Storage

Oak Creek Self Storage is a climate controlled storage facility located in the Village of Oak Creek just outside of Sedona, AZ.  The facility includes 626 rental units within the basement, main level & 2nd floor.  The exterior facade includes red and brown stucco, metal siding, and a natural stone veneer which mimic the surrounding Red Rocks.  SD Crane Builders assisted in the design process and was a vital part of ensuring all of the Owners’ requests were met along with encompassing the unique requirements of the towns Red Rock and Dark Sky committees into the build.

Carnegie Library Roof replacement

The Carnegie Library Roof Replacement Project was a historic project for the State of Arizona and also the City of Phoenix. The existing roofing was removed and a new terne-coated copper roofing system. This project has replicated the roof as it was in its original state when it was originally installed. The Carnegie Roof Replacement Project was also given the Harry H. Melon Award of Merit, which is a national Job Order Contracting award. This project was recognized for this award because of the innovation, complexity, special circumstances, and overall cost savings surrounding such a significant project.

Higher Education

Phoenix College
Bulpitt Auditorium

SD Crane Builders remodeled the historic Bulpitt Auditorium including the stage, acoustics, lighting and rigging. We also worked with the college to bring back the original windows that had been covered for decades, renovated the deteriorating exterior brick facade, and made the historic fire dampers at the penthouse operable again. Additionally, our Team re-configured the control and audio booths and renovated public spaces to meet current ADA requirements.

Lehi Elementary School
Campus Renovations

The Lehi Elementary School project is a modernization of the student commons, lobby, administration, teachers workrooms, & student restrooms. The project consisted of updating student restrooms, adding new staff restrooms, including new underground plumbing. The lobby & admin areas received a complete remodel of work spaces with modern finishes, hollow metal door & window assemblies, & security areas incorporated. The areas renovated also included new carpet, terrazzo & tile finishes. We also created an area called the Creative Huddle and turned the library into the student commons. We built two stairways leading into the student commons, including rock features on the steps, and turned a section of the library into the student “Tree House”.

Healthcare

Yavapai County Community Health center

This was a ground up project for the Yavapai County Public Health Department.  The building contained a full service medical clinic and dental operatory along with file storage and administrative offices. The construction of the building was predominately structural masonry with a few accent areas using structural steel framing.  The exterior skin of the building was EIFS with a natural flagstone wainscot.  In a time when cultured stone is the norm the natural flagstone laid up by truly skilled stone masons is a striking addition to the building.   The dental operatory is a fully functioning facility with all the latest in dental equipment and technology. The overall look of the building blends in beautifully with the surrounding buildings in this larger Yavapai County facility.
